Rough Synopsis
So, I've had this idea. We need to make Permaculture as open and accessible to others as possible. From what I have gathered from much of my research and observation on the internet, is that lots of people have their ideas on what "Permaculture" is, and go around labelling things as "Permaculture" or "Not Permaculture". If something is primitive and doesn't use technology, people will label it Permaculture. If something is high tech or modern in any way, many people will shoot it down as not "being" Permaculture.
I have very rarely seen any real Permaculture Design on the internet. All I see is opinions and armchair Permaculturists. I don't think that any of these people are at fault, indeed it was over 2 years after I first came across Permaculture before I even begun applying any principles or design in my life. I think it comes from a lack of knowledge and understanding about what Permaculture really is and really means. I am going to be doing a lot of work to help educate people and help them to apply Permaculture in their lives, and I think this project will create a useful tool for those ends.
The Permaculture Design Framework will be an online tool. I am envisioning some kind of form, where you enter various different details and then the framework formats it as a design. So, for example, it may ask questions to elicit earth care ethical considerations by asking questions such as: How will this project reduce environmental impacts on the earth and nature? How will the project have a positive impact on these?
To explore goals articulation, it could ask: What are your 3 mains goals for the project? What are some wider goals that you might hope to achieve? etc
The idea is to lay out plain and simple questions that can be understood by anyone. They may not even need any knowledge of permaculture! By answering the questions, they are completing their very own Permaculture Design! I hope that this would open up permaculture design to many more people! Lets begin the design.
